Last night I went to a meeting of the Brewers and Drinkers around Silver Spring, or BADASS. It was a good time. Lots of nice people and good beers. A couple guys discussed kegging, which is of great interest to me. Good times, I would like to go back if they would have me.
My buddy came by to bottle the Dead guy clone this weekend. It tasted great and I can't wait to sample it. I do intend to sample my PeneloPA this weekend and am hoping it goes well. I have been drinking lots of octoberfests and have been enjoyng them immensely. I will be sad when they are all gone. If I get a chance I would like to bottle my amber ale and my pale ale. I also made to the homebrew store for provisions to brew my stout. Hopefully I can get it done by my birthday.

I finally got around to brewing up my all Chinook amber ale. I have been thinking about this for a very long time so much so that the words have lost all meaning and all I hear is Ann Burell. This is frightening but I need to get on with my life. I am very anxious for it too be done and drink it but time is the only brewing ingredient I cannot do without.
A few weeks ago a freind and I decided to combine our efforts in the pusuit of fine homebrew. When I was at his house he showed me his setup and all his equipment and a box. In this box was Liquid and dry extract, a ton of assorted hops and a few packs of dry yeast. This box was shipped to his freinds in a far off country, not used, and brought back when the tour was up. Since then, they have sat in the box in his garage. The integrity of these ingredients was questionable at best but, being a cheapskate, we must use them. Since I was already brewing yesterday and everthing was out and clean and sanitizing was commencing so I decided to test a small sample of these ingredients to see what I can do with the rest of them. I brewed a 2 gallon batch with 1 3.3 pound can of LME, some northern brewer hops to bitter and some liberty for flavor. I may have overdone the hops a bit but my fear was that the compounds had deteriorated to a point htat there may not be any bittering or flavor left in them. Time will tell. I rehydrated a packet of yeast and it took off like wild fire so I assume it will ferment this beer. I am going to rush this one to bottle so we can sample it and decide what to do with the remaining stuff. I do anticipate another double brewday soon but cant settle on what we should brew. I am going to brew my stout soon, I do love it. I have aged some of my Stout stout, Pumkin ale and Sparkling Apple wine. I'm trying to hold out until November to bust into them. This weekend I got my latest IPA bottled. It was supposed to be a rebrew of my blue ribbon award winning PeneloP A, but I was unable to secure any Simcoe hops. I instead went with Amarillo. I kept the grain bill mostly intact but made some adjustments based on judges suggestions, as well as some minor changes to my hop scedule. Time will tell.
If I can find a competition to enter it in I would really love to, so right now I'm looking around. The Dead Guy clone and the Westy 12 clone have both been racked to secondaries. I don't usually secondary but the Westy will likely sit for a while so Its good practice and my friend who I brewed them with said it results in much clearer beer. He went to Germany for Octoberfest festivities and we will probably bottle the Dead guy when he returns. I am still anticipating the brewing of another batch of all Chinook amber ale because it was damn delicious last time and I'd like to have some in stock. It will be a smaller batch. I also need to brew the stout again. I'm consider what I may want to drink in the late winter early spring right now so when I come up with something that is what I'll brew Right now I've still got my IRS from last year, tastey but not enough carbonation. I also have a 1 year old Punkin ale I stashed away from |
