Brewed a doppelbock this weekend. it was the first time we used melanoiden malt and im anxious to see what it does. up next is a citra pale ale. i also have a stout i need to get to brewing soon. This is a good time of year to brew because the basement temp stays in the 60s mostly.
The saison is sadly gone, it is a very good beer. in the kegerator now I have the porter and a Munich/vienna tettnang/spalt DMaDH octoberfesty type thing. Cheers Time to get to brewing. We brewed a porter and an experimental german 2 and 2 with munich and vienna malts and 2 kinds of german hops. The porter is kegged and chilled and we sampled it this past weekend. The Saison that we brewed in the spring was saved for my wifes birthday party and it must have been good because it was all drank up. Cheers! up next is not yet determined but it should be great and I'll be happy to get to brewing more frequently.
I took two kegs to my BIL house. I was worried that it wouldn't work but after some initial pressure issues and some stirred up trub it actually worked great. It's just two kegs in a cooler with lots PC ice anx a bag of ice on top of each. They stSyed cold and poured brilliantly. They were thd Phinyweizen and the Penelope IPA. Happy fourth sverybody
My wife delivered our third child last sunday so it's time to celebrate. On tap Ive got Phinyweizen, a wit i brewed for my sons birthday, and Penelope IPA for my daughter. Both are pouring wonderfully and are delicious. i also have ready in the bottles a light lager a cream ale and a german pilsner. all great styles for the summer heat. I alos have a keg of saison ready to go but I only have room for two kegs in the fridge. for now.
As it is summer and a little warm in the basement to ferment properly, and on account of the new baby and all the work involved in the first weeks and months I have decided to abstain from brewing for a month or two. Up next will likely be an octoberfest or some other german style lager to be drank for octoberfest My wife and I are expecting our 3rd child any day now and the suspense is killing me. I hope it lasts. Lots of brewing stuffs to report on. I helped my Brother in law brew a Sam Adams clone from a kit the bought at Annapolis homebrew we are due to bottle it soon. Ernie and I have finished all of our collective br4ewing for the summer season with our Saison< Phinnywiezen (Wit) and Penelope IPA and New baby cream ale. I also brewed a german Pils and Ernie is due to rebrew the scotch ale.
The English pale SMaSH at Ernies party was awesome and consumed quickly. We brewed the IPA and luckily our pal Tim came by because I was going nuts with the seasonal allergies and was little help in the brewing process so he and Ernie were able to finish it up proper. Thanks a millio guys. I tried to help Ernie keg his 15 gallon British pale SMaSH for his party. It went well and it ought to be a great beer.
This weekend I brewed a pilsner. I'm calling it the New Baby German Pilsner. It was a small test batch on my pilot brew system. I likely will not have enough time to lager it properly but ,we will see eh? good times as always
Ernie's Memorial Day blowout is on. He single handedly brewed 15 gallons of a British pale SMaSH using Marris otter and east kent Goldings. This ought to be delicious.
This week I intend to do a small test batch of a bohemian pils. In honor of the upcoming birth ifs 3rd child. Next would be the Penelope IPA. And I found a picture of me and Ernie from the big brew to share Went to the big brew this sat. and we brewed Phinyweizen which is a Belgian wit. All went very well and we met and talked to some cool folks and my wife came by and brought the kiddies to hang out with us. It was a very good time indeed. Unfortunately I didn't take a single picture of the event so use your imagination for visuals.
In preparation for the event we had to clear up some space in our fermenters so we bottled the Eastvleteren and the Lawnmowin Lager. Up next I intend to brew a bohemian pilsner and of course my blue ribbon major award winning Penelope IPA. afterwards I must take a sabbatical as my wife will deliver our 3rd child and I intend to be extremely busy at least for a little while. I do hope to be back in action In time to brew an octoberfest and rebrew the scotch ale and may be get some kind of chrismas ale ready early enough to actually enjoy it on Christmas. we'll see |
